There are a lot of coaches out there.

You can find an online life coach. You can find a health coach, a business coach, a confidence coach, a lifestyle coach, or a relationship coach. You can find coaches that coach coaches.

You can even go to life coach school.

I went to the school of hard knocks. I didn’t go to life coach school. I learned through life’s lessons.

AND by overcoming my physical and emotional addictions.

I learned through rising to the top in business, then hitting rock bottom, and rising to the top again. It was my life experiences, my perseverance, and thirst for breaking through that lead to my success.

I’ve been personally coaching clients 1-on-1 for over 20 years. I work with people that are in momentum and people who are stuck.

Personal growth is what people are seeking when they seek out a life coach. But what is a life coach?

What Is Life Coaching?

Life coaching is a professional relationship that assists the client with their life, career, business, and/or relationships. In simple terms, a highly qualified life coach will assist you to bridge the gap from where you are to where you want to be.

A life coach is NOT a therapist.

A therapist is typically seen as the person that will fix you. On the other hand, a coach assists you to achieve goals, overcome obstacles, and make shifts in your life. A life coach can assist you to create clarity where there is confusion.

If you find yourself attracting the same situations, people, and challenges, this is where a good coach can assist you to break down the cause and effect of why you do what you do.  To get unstuck, a coach can give you a new perspective and insight into the challenges you face. This will allow you to look at the patterns holding you back from succeeding.

Here are 10 reasons to consider working with a life coach:

  1. You doubt yourself
  2. You have low self-esteem
  3. You require a plan for your vision
  4. Your health requires improvement
  5. You procrastinate frequently
  6. You have financial challenges
  7. You want to accelerate your success
  8. Your relationships are challenging
  9. You live in anxiety
  10. You feel stuck

If you found yourself saying yes to several of the reasons from the list, that is the first step in the process of change. It’s important to identify where change is required. And now I am going to let you in on the truth about coaching.

You can coach yourself!

I had mentors as I was going through my breakthrough process but I didn’t have a coach. I had to figure it out for myself.

Was it challenging at times?

Unequivocally, YES!

I persevered. I read personal development books. I studied the masters. And most importantly, I learned to break down the cause and effect relationships that kept me addicted and stuck. You can do the same for yourself.

Learning To Coach Yourself

Don’t get me wrong. Working with the right coach can be a game changer.

My goal when I work with clients is to teach them how to coach themselves. I teach them how to break down cause and effect. Many of them use the skills I teach to coach their friends, family, and teammates.

Here’s how you start.

Identify where you are unsatisfied or where you are stuck. Then, identify where you want to be. What is your vision? Do you have business goals? What are your personal goals? Without goal setting, you won’t know what to aim for. Without goal setting, it is challenging to push yourself.

Here’s what comes next… and this can be the most challenging part.

It’s time to look at your patterns of behavior, your law of attraction, and any physical and emotional addictions that plague you. Look for patterns that have occurred throughout your life. What do you see?

Do you play the victim role?

Are you codependent?

Do you rise to the top only to crash to the bottom?

Are you angry all the time?

Are you controlling?

Do you chronically end up in debt?

Do your romantic relationships tend to end because the other person cheats on you or you cheat on them?

Are you plagued by guilt?

If you find yourself saying, “This always happens to me,” there is a cause and effect situation at play. As you coach yourself, you have to go back to the events that shaped your feelings and your behaviors.

Yes, back to your childhood. This is typically where the conditioned behavior begins.  As you understand your patterns, you can take new action. You can create a plan. Your goal setting will have more meaning. Your business goals will be achievable.

Why does this happen?

Because you are no longer in denial. You have confronted yourself and you are coaching yourself. You are letting go of what no longer serves you.

So to answer the question from the beginning of this post…
