(This is Part 1 of my 3-part series! Once you’ve finished this post, check out Part 2 and Part 3.)
I have been a business owner for over 30 years. And I’ve been coaching entrepreneurs for 18+ years… In this series, I am going to share with you the essentials lessons I teach my clients to break through and create the success they deserve.
This week, I will address is money.
That’s why you are in business, isn’t it… To create more of it so that you can live a better life? So let’s start by examining your dialogue with money.
Dialogue With Money
Your dialogue with money is the foundation for creating financial success… especially in free enterprise. Depending on how money was treated and thought of during your upbringing… you will either have an ease with attracting and receiving it… or struggle. As a business owner, you have to have a positive dialogue with money or you may find yourself running a non-profit business from the discomfort of your home…
Many people grow up in households, communities, and religions that are focused on giving. You’ve heard the saying… It’s better to give than to receive. If this is how you were conditioned to think as you grew up, you may feel an internal struggle when it comes to receiving money in business.
What does, “your dialogue with money,” mean?
Simply put… it’s the way you interact with money… And the way you talk and feel about the opportunity to create, make and attract it.
To create more in your life, you must be comfortable with yourself. If you have self-esteem issues, deserve and receive challenges when it comes to asking… you’ll end up in a situation where you repel money.
Let’s begin by uncovering how you think and feel about the subject. Here are some questions to ask yourself to gain a better awareness of your relationship with money…
Do I know how to earn more money?
Does making money feel easy or hard for me?
Do I have a lot of debt or am I free of debt?
Do I spend for emotional reasons?
Am I saving for retirement?
Does money flow to me or do I worry about money?
Your Beliefs About Money
To find out the cause of your current beliefs and relationship with money… let’s start with your childhood. You have to consider how you were conditioned to think and behave around the topic of money.
What were some of the terms you learned about money when you were growing up?
Your dialogue with money will be a direct reflection of the way you were conditioned to behave around it. Here are some statements and phrases I have collected over the years that have a negative connotation.
- We can’t afford it.
- From the wrong side of the tracks…
- Filthy stinking rich.
- Rich people are ______.
- A home to die for.
- Pray for a miracle
- I hope the Lord provides.
- I put my faith in the Lord, not money.
- Money brings out the worst in people
- We may not have a lot, but we eat well.
- We paid with blood, sweat and tears.
What are you starting to uncover about your relationship with money? Let’s keep going and dive a little deeper.
Money Mindset
Consider your current money mindset. Do you have lack mentality or poverty consciousness… a defeatist mindset… a live for the moment and spend freely mindset…
Or are you a workaholic… Have you hit a glass ceiling for how much you can earn?
If you own a business and you are not achieving what you desire, you may have negative programming sabotaging your success. Here are some more questions to consider…
Are you generating leads? Do you prospect consistently? Do you have challenges asking for the sale? Are you enrolling new people?
If your answer any of these questions aren’t favorable, it may be time to create a new dialog with money.
Creating A New Dialog
In this post, I have asked a lot of questions. That’s what I do as a coach.
I ASK to uncover the cause that creates the effect that you are living in. If you don’t feel you deserve money or prosperity, then you will create situations to fulfill your expectations.
If money makes you feel guilty because you don’t feel like you deserve it, then it will be difficult to increase your income… because if you did, you would just feel more guilt.
But… when there is an awareness of the cause… you now have the power to change the affect it has on you. You can reprogram your brain.
Begin to create a dialogue conducive to attracting the people you can create money with. Change your level of comfortability with money. Free enterprise is about creating value… not trading time for dollars. The more value you provide, the more money you will create.
But…
If you don’t value yourself, you will have challenges in your business. You will live in a mixed message. You may really want to make more money but you will do things to sabotage you success. You will tend to stay in your comfort zone and let your ego talk you out of doing what’s required to make it happen.
Time is your most valuable commodity. It is in your best interest to begin feeling as if you truly deserve to live an abundant life full of prosperity. When you change your dialog with money… you can create wealth in free enterprise. Begin to affirm that you are in the process of change and creating prosperity.
And what is an affirmation?
An affirmation is a high quality thought that you like well enough to immerse in your consciousness. Ask yourself… What would I like to think in order to create my life the way I would like it?
Money Affirmations:
I deserve to be prosperous and wealthy.
Money is my friend.
My financial life is easy.
It is OK for me to exceed my goals.
It’s fun for me to be wealthy.
I am at one with the power that is materializing my desires.
My presence alone produces valuable results.
I now allow others to support my financial success.
True Financial Prosperity
What you are really seeking is true financial prosperity. Here’s my definition…
“Having a relationship with money that enhances and supports your total experience to prosperity.” I call this, “getting right with money—getting right with you.”
Your life is a direct reflection of your thoughts. As you begin to take responsibility for what you think, you will begin to experience a change in consciousness. As you learn and grow… your awareness will intensify.
I’ll leave you with this last thought… True prosperity comes from the action you take. You have to feel good about yourself to attract the right people to the right situations. That is the point when you step into flow and out of resistance!
